Nathan and I have continued his family's tradition of giving pj's on Christmas eve. So, this afternoon (I wasn't going to wake the kids at 10:30 after church to open presents...no way!) the boys openned their jammies. It was priceless! Keilan was thrilled with his lizard jammies and delivered many thank yous with ooos and ahhhs. Of course Caleb tried to mimic his big brother's responce and so delivered his version of thank yous and oos and ahhhs...we were in stitches! A heart-warming moment. The boys wore their jammies for the rest of the day even under their snowsuits when we ventured outside to slip and slide on the icy yard. Keilan is resting comfortably in his new jammies at present (I hope) but unfortunately, Caleb is back in last years jammies because of a very smelly incident...we won't go there!
I thought that as my own family/kids grew and we developed our own Christmas traditions I would miss my own childhood traditions less and less. I was wrong. I don't know why, but this year especially, I have missed my family. I have found myself humming Roger Whitiker songs and craving french onion soup, fondue, and Grandma's stuffing...ooooh sooooo gooooooood! Growing up we didn't have a lot of traditions around yearly celebrations, but what my family passed on to me is much richer and much more lasting. I have never known a day without unconditional love, never felt rejected or unwanted, neither have I ever doubted my family's commitment to me and now my family. Incredible really. Before p.j.'s on Christmas eve, the oriental party pack, and stockings Christmas morning, I want to pass on to my children the same traditons/foundations my parents passed on to me.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
